The countdown to the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) has officially began with countries naming their provisional squads ahead of the binennual tournament that starts on January 9,2022.
Hosts Cameroon have named a provisional squad of 40 to prepare for the showpiece.
The five-time winners open their campaign against Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium, Yaounde on January 9,2022.
Five cities will host the showpiece with Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, Yaounde, Japoma stadium in Douala, Kouekong stadium in Bafoussam, the Roumde Adija stadium in Garaoua and the Limbe Omnisports stadium will be the venues for the tournament.
The Indomitable Lions are the second most successful nation in AFCON having won the tournament five times, two behind the Pharaohs of Egypt. They are in Group A alongside Cape Verde, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.
